About the Hilltown Land Trust

Our Mission Statement

  • To conserve active farmland, undisturbed forest land and “working” forest properties;
  • To save native plant and wildlife habitats;
  • To protect watersheds;
  • To preserve the scenic and rural character of the Hilltowns

The Hilltown Land Trust recognizes that our towns must balance their need to create new housing and jobs with their need to preserve critical natural resources and their rural character. We’re committed to being an important participant in this endeavor.

Our Staff

Executive Director Sally Loomis works out of the Haydenville Office of the Highland Communities Initiative. Phone: (413) 268-8374, or email her using our contact form.

Our Volunteers

The Hilltown Land Trust is largely run by volunteers, allowing us to maximize the use of donations in meeting the goals of our mission. The people who are graciously donating their time and energy to running our organization by now serving on our Board of Directors and/or as Committee Chairs are:

  • Joseph Best (Worthington)
  • Lincoln Fish (Williamsburg)
  • Wil Hastings (Northampton)
  • Carol Klyman (Westhampton)
  • Ruth Pardoe (Huntington)
  • Thomas Quinn (Worthington)
  • Waino Tuominen (Huntington)
  • Eric Weber (Williamsburg)
  • Shirley S. Winer (Chester)

In addition to the efforts of our Board of Directors, the Hilltown Land Trust receives volunteer labor and in-kind support from dozens of other people, helping us do the work required to monitor the lands in our care.

Our Partner, The Trustees of Reservations

Finally, our new partner for Hilltown Land Conservation, The Trustees of Reservations, has added tremendous new energy and human resources to our work. Special thanks go out to Jocelyn Forbush, Lee Alexander and Wendy Sweetser.
